EKPHRASTIC POETRY WORKSHOP at the OBLIVION GALLERY

_____________________________

Saturday, January 3rd, 2-3:30pm

Join poet Jorah LaFleur at the Oblivion Gallery for a 90-minute ekphrastic poetry workshop. Ekphrastic poetry, derived from the Greek word for “description,” uses vivid, detailed language to narrate, reflect upon, or interpret a work of visual art. No prior writing experience is needed. In the spirit of Wonder-Tender, a group exhibition celebrating painting, sculpture, and photography, participants will select a work to inspire their own poetic response. LaFleur, a spoken-word poet and teaching artist known for fostering connection, will guide an exploration of what it feels like to have a conversation with a visual work, through linguistic creativity. Open to all, the workshop invites participants to step tenderly into wonder and discover what emerges when we listen closely to art, and to ourselves.

This workshop is offered at a sliding scale ($15-$30). Scroll down to register.

WONDER-TENDER COLLABORATIVE EXHIBIT
Through sculpture, image, and word, Wonder-Tender invites us into a shared space of curiosity and reverence—where art becomes a threshold, symbol meets story, and imagination becomes the bridge through which we remember ourselves back home. Wonder-Tender is a group exhibition featuring the works of photographer Sandy Brown, sculptor Jud Turner, mixed-media artist Renee Mahni, spoken-word poet Jorah LaFleur, and painter Shanna Trumbly.
